6 Ways To Change A Behavior You Don't Like!

If you are reading this article, there is something about yourself you want to change.
A certain behavior or behaviors to be precise. What behaviors come to mind?
Since our lives are the result of our long-term behaviors, you can regain control by making positive changes to your behavior patterns.
Following these strategies will make it easier to change your behaviors and exert more control over your experiences:
1. Make the new behavior as enjoyable as possible- For instance, you might dislike exercising, but if you could find a way to make it more enjoyable, you would partake more often in this healthy activity. Maybe you could exercise with a friend or discover a new form of exercise that you enjoy.
  • The more agreeable the new task is to you, the more likely you are to do it.
How are you going to make the new behavior more enjoyable?
2. Make a list of the positive benefits you'll receive- By making a list, you'll begin to see the task in a more positive light. Come up with as many benefits as you can and keep the list in plain view.
  • For example, perhaps you feel like you should eat more nutritiously. Some of the positive aspects of healthier eating might include:
  • I'll feel better.
  • My clothes will fit better.
  • I'll enjoy more vigorous health.
  • I'll be more attractive.
  • I can play with the kids more easily.
  • I can go hiking again without tiring half way through the trek.
  • I'll feel a sense of pride.
  • I can go to the pool without feeling embarrassed.
What are the positive benefits?
3. Make the decision- Just decide that you're going to do it; often that's the hardest part. Making a decision is the first step to accomplishment. Until that point, you're really just wishing.
4. Control your thoughts- If you focus on how much you don't like doing something, it will be much more difficult to get yourself to do it. Try to catch yourself before you get too far down that road. When a negative thought like this arises, substitute a new thought from the list you made in step #2.
  • The more incentive you have, the more likely you are to be successful.
  • For example, if you spend all your time focused on how good you're going to look after eating well for three months, your odds of success go up considerably. On the other hand, if you spend all your time thinking negatively, what do you think the outcome will be?
What are your new thoughts?
5. Reward yourself afterwards- A little reward can go a long way. So, after a new behavior has taken root, do something nice for yourself. More importantly, be proud of yourself for following through on any behavior that improves your life.
What's your reward?
6. Be diligent- While getting started is often the most difficult part, it can be easy to backslide if you get distracted and stop paying attention. Every day, review how you did. How successful were you with exhibiting the new behavior? Each moment you spend measuring your progress serves as a daily reminder. This will help solidify the behavior.
Changing behaviors can be challenging, but it will improve your life in the long-term! Examine which behaviors you might want to alter to take your life to the next level, and then apply the process above. Be patient with yourself - you may have been doing something a certain way for many years. Some things will take time to change, but you can do it!

Motivation Motivation Motivation!

If you find yourself wanting to achieve some goal but you cannot be motivated long enough to achieve it, this personal development motivation article is for you. It does not matter if you want to start a new habit, develop a skill or change your character. All of this requires strong personal development motivation.
The biggest mistake you can make is to search for short cuts to achieve goals. By doing this, you waste your time and energy and stop your progress. In the long run, this will definitely de-motivate you from achieving success.
Even if the goal takes long to achieve, that's okay. Time will pass anyway, so why not use it well and achieve something?
Strategy for keeping motivation high;
If you find it hard to achieve goals, focus on one goal at a time. This way your mind will be concentrated on only one thing, and not distracted by anything else.
When you progress and achieve couple of goals this way, you will be able to set more goals at the same time. This way you will continually raise your personal development motivation because you will see positive results.
Always try to write down the deadline of the goal in your daily planner. You should keep referring to the deadline to keep your mind focused on accomplishing the goal on time.
Try to develop a habit of taking action every day towards your goal. This will increase your personal development motivation because you will be proud of yourself by being so pro-active. This, of course, will also gradually lead to the accomplishment of the goal.
Remove all distractions;
You should stop doing activities that fail to get you closer to the goal (like watching TV or surfing internet). If you really cannot abandon activities as such, at least try to eliminate them from your life as often as you can.
If you are really serious about progressing in life, you should mainly do things that get you closer to your goals and keep away from distractions.
By doing this you will progress much faster and later on you will be grateful that you made such choice. Less cluster in your daily activities will improve your personal development motivation and make you feel in control.
Set priorities;
If you know that there is some hard work that you must do to achieve your goal, don't put it off. You should say to yourself that by accomplishing it you will tremendously shorten the time of your goal achievement. This will motivate you to complete whatever hard work there is.
If you feel you are still lacking personal development motivation, read some inspirational articles or self-help books. They will quickly get you back on track. You should keep doing whatever makes you happy and keeps you motivated. This usually means doing what you love, thinking positively and blocking yourself from negative influences.
If you are motivated for longer than usual, congratulate yourself. Acknowledging that you've done a good job really improves your personal development motivation.
Block negative influences;
When you feel that you are getting upset or negative about accomplishing goals, you should stop for a while and reflect. Do you really want to achieve that particular goal? What would your life look like in 1, 5, 10 years from now if you quit? That should get your motivation back unless you realise that the goal is not as beneficial as you initially thought.
Also, many people give up because they listen to their friends and relatives who say 'Be realistic!' or 'What if you fail?' or something similar. Never ever listen to such destructive advice. Only you know what you are capable of, don't let anyone get you down. Completely ignore everyone that has something negative to say about your goals.
You should be surrounded by people that raise your motivation, not the opposite. If all your friends and relatives are negative, stay away from all of them. Stay alone for a while, surround yourself with good books and other positive information. You will attract positive people as soon as your thinking becomes positive.
You should never give up your power to someone else and hope for the best. Best will never come to your life this way. Try to only listen to yourself and ignore everyone who tries to dissuade you from taking action.
No one will raise your personal development motivation but you. You hold 100% responsibility for everything in your life. Understanding this is the only way to achieve all your goals and excel in personal development motivation!

Personal Development Plans- Do They Work?

Most of us have personal development plans regarding our careers, relationships and self improvement but many of us lose sight of our aspirations as a result of us getting caught up in the daily trappings of everyday life.
We all have infinite potential but few of us make the most of what we have got. We are given a formal education at school that equips us with all that we need to get a job, but it is what we learn after school that determines whether our personal development plans will come into fruition!
One thing is certain, things can only change for you when YOU want to change, but where do you start?
MINDSET:
Mindset plays a huge part in changing your life for the better. Most of us have been programmed for failure, either from our school days or from wrongly believing that success is only for a certain type of person. However any person can be successful if they adopt a positive mindset and believe in themselves.
The first step is to write down your goals. Once you have written them down the brain is then more aware of them and you will then actively do whatever it takes to achieve those goals. Make a list of short term goals and long time goals and you will be amazed how great it will feel when you eventually fulfil your dreams and goals.
BUILD GOOD RELATIONSHIPS:
In order to be successful with your personal development plan it is important to surround yourself with good, influential people...People who are successful and have a positive attitude to life. You will then learn valuable advice from them as to how to succeed in life. You can then share this knowledge with others.
Be careful to also invest time and effort into these relationships as it is all too easy to keep focusing on the urgent things (namely making money) rather than the important things (family, friends and your own well being).
SELF EDUCATION:
In order to improve your life it is crucial to self educate. This can be achieved by reading self development books, learning from other successful individuals and also by learning from mistakes that you have made along the way.
Formal education teaches what you need to get a job, but self education is what will help to you to make you a fortune. Self education is paramount to your personal growth.
CREATE FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE:
The only way that you will create financial independence is by working for yourself.
If you work for others you will only ever earn a wage and that wage will always be capped to what an employer thinks that you are worth. Whereas if you work for yourself, you will reap the profits for yourself and not your employer. You will also create a better life for yourself in the process.

All in all we all have the ability to design our own lives rather than allowing others to design our lives for us.All that is needed is a good self development plan, consisting of adopting the right mindset, investing in good relationships, stepping out of our comfort zones and educating ourselves on the best ways to make money and keep the profits for ourselves rather than others. To be successful in your quest you will need to have strong self motivation and to be able to find the best opportunity to start your own business and build up your own empire.
After all we only live once so why not make the most of our abilities, rather than having the pain of regret on our deathbeds for what might have been. However, you will need to take the necessary steps to make it happen.
As Jim Rohn once said:
"You cannot change your destination overnight but you can change your direction overnight"!

Positive Self Motivation.

Positive Self Motivation is the inner drive that puts optimism into action for winning in life. Winners are driven by desire! A winner will have the desire to improve upon their own personal development. There never was a consistent winner in any walk of life, who didn't have that burning desire to win internalized. Winners know that the basic behavioral axiom in life is the fact that you and I do become what we think about most. You and I are motivated everyday and moved by our currently dominant thoughts. In other words we move only in the direction of that what we dwell on.
Everyone in life is self motivated, a little bit or a lot, positively or negatively, even a decision to do nothing is a decision based on motivation. Motivation is a force which moves us to action, and it springs from inside the individual. Motivation is defined as a strong tendency toward or away from an object or situation, and it can be learned and developed, it doesn't have to be inborn.
Positive Self Motivation Puts You In The Driver's Seat of Your Life!
Anyone wishing to improve upon their personal development has to, in one way or another ignite their own motivation. For too long it has been wrongly assumed that motivation is extraneous, that it can be pumped in from the outside through pep talks, or contests or rallies. Such activities do provide concepts in education, encouragement, and inspiration for individuals to turn on their creative powers, but only if they want to and only if internalized.
That's the secret, lasting change is effected only when the need for change is both understood and internalized. Until the reward or incentive has been interrupted and internalized it has no motivational power at all. So the real winners in life are the people who have developed, as a result of an overall attitude of positive self expectancy, or optimism, a strong positive self motivation. This is key to improving upon your own personal development.
